Before this week, I had driven a Lamborghini once. It was a Gallardo Spyder and I drove it about four miles in the mid-2000s. That wasn't enough time to get much of an impression, but I remember that the V-10 provided ridiculous power and an ear-searing engine note. The engine also vibrated like a washing machine with a brick in it. It wasn't a refined car, but it's raw nature made it quite appealing. Almost a decade after that experience, I attended my first Lamborghini press drive this week in Miami. Given that I would be driving the Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder, a 610-horsepower...

Aston Martin DB9 Final Drive: 2016 GT Variant A Fitting Way To Say GoodbyeNo... I'm not the one saying goodbye here, sorry to disappoint you. It's the Aston Martin DB9 that is bowing out. That's not a sad statement either, as its departure opens the door for a more modern and wonderful replacement. Aston Martin has been producing the DB9 from 2004 all the way up through...

A bit of throttle, some opposite lock dialed into the steering, and now you're king of the streets. You're burning up tires, you've got 100,000 followers on Instagram, and you're ready to take on the big leagues. Let...

2016 Cadillac CT6 first drive reviewCadillac has a problem. Over the past few years it has developed and delivered a pair of sedans—the ATS and CTS—that are as good as or better than anything Europe has to offer. And yet, car sales were down last year and those cars really haven’t put a dent in the sales of the...

Flat Out At 27 MPH In A 1904 Cadillac From London To BrightonThe Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is one of winter's great automotive adventures. The oldest automotive motoring event in the world invites cars built before 1906 to dash 60 miles down a two-lane highway, usually through awful weather, from the U.K. capitol to the trendy seaside town...

2016 Softail Slim S Review: Harley's Cruiser Joins The 21st CenturyThis is not your typical Harley-Davidson. If you've come here for a review of a bike that looks retro cool, but doesn't perform well, and has quality issues that should have been addressed in the 1970s, you're barking up the wrong tree. Instead, the 2016 Harley-Davidson Softail Slim S is still...

You needn't have a near-death experience to go into the light. Simply driving a 2016 Bentley Continental GT Convertible up California's majestic Highway 1 will do. Like a lover's caressing touch, this Bentley is sensually opulent enough to make you shudder. Pair a car of the Conti's caliber with breath-arresting scenery, and you have an experience akin to walking into the light, or better yet, driving into it. In my 30 years as a California resident, I had never used "the 1" as my main route to San Francisco. If you take the direct route, Interstate 5, you're looking at a five-and-a-half-hour...

2017 Infiniti QX30 first drive reviewThe very design of the 2017 Infiniti QX30 makes it clear that Nissan’s luxury marque—created for the United States market 25 years ago—wants to be an international player. It’s a hatchback that also blends elements of an SUV, you see, and Americans have never thought much of...

2016 Mini Clubman first drive reviewMINI is now in its second decade under the BMW aegis, and apparently, it's time for some soul-searching. Breathe easy, now. The Cooper is fine. Even though it's bigger than ever, it's also a pretty nimble, fun-loving hatchback, even with a three-cylinder engine. It's unscathed by the reshaping...

2017 Audi Q7: Driving The Only New SUV With All-Wheel SteeringNimble, agile, and even tossable aren’t words that you’ll often find in driving impressions of a big three-row utility vehicle. Yet they most definitely apply to the 2017 Audi Q7. The new Q7 manages to provide a driving experience that, on tight, curvy roads, feels like that of a tidy...

The 2016 Nissan GT-R Nismo has a soul: I met itSoulless, ugly, and overweight. These are the three things I hear nearly every armchair-enthusiast fanboy say about the Nissan GT-R. The NISMO? It's scoffed at as an even more ridiculously priced Nissan with more boost and little else. All of those people are wrong. The jeers of the GT-R being...

2016 Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 first drive review: 2 is greater than 4In a billionaire’s playground a $201,000 supercar is an inexpensive toy, but you can’t measure the fun of the new rear-drive Lamborghini Huracán LP 580-2 in dollars. In fact, if anything, less is more with the new entry-level Lambo. How is it that a spin around a rarely-used Moto...

You don’t buy an Aston Martin if you are looking for the best sports car for the money. Several more mainstream brands build cars that are more reliable and less expensive while delivering as much or more performance. Instead, you buy an Aston Martin because you want that beauty in your life. Yes, you are getting a world-class sports car or a grand tourer, but what you are really buying is a work of automotive art. All of the Aston Martin models are based on the brand’s VH platform that features a bonded aluminum structure. An alloy torque tube running down the middle houses a...

2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder first drive reviewHawaii is a vibrant landscape with a beauty that approaches perfection. Something about the angle of the sun and the clear blue sky turns the grass that grows on the volcanic rock a glowing emerald green. The constant gentle breeze mixes with pervasive 80-degree temperatures to ensure the comfort...

Ford Shelby GT350 Vs. Chevy Camaro SS: Video ThrowdownYou know, sometimes it's tough to convince our friends and family that this is a tough job. Hard days and long nights. Real work. Convincing them is about to get impossible. Who else runs buck wild with two of the ballsiest cars on the face of Planet Earth--on a school day? We did. Drove 'em hard...

2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS Video Road TestWhat's a muscle car? What's a pony car? Before you dig too deeply into those car-guy Twitter fights, listen to this. It's time to stop calling the Chevy Camaro a pony car. Time to stop calling it a muscle car. It's a bona fide sports car now, and a damn fine one at that. We took to the canyons of...

2015 Lamborghini Huracán video reviewLamborghini. For some of us, it means the Countach, the ultimate Eighties poster car, maybe the craziest supercar of all time. For others, it's the Aventador, the state of the art supercar with Italy written all over it. For us, it means the Huracán--the approachable Lamborghini, if there is...

2016 Ford Focus RS first ride reviewFord Motor Company [NYSE:F] is in the midst of a run of performance cars like we have never seen before. The Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustangs are arriving right now. Next up is the all-wheel-drive Focus RS, followed by the SVT Raptor, and then the king of them all, the reborn GT. The 2016 Focus RS...

Spain is a country of contrasts: exclusive estates tower over luxury resorts at the Mediterranean coast, while just a few miles inland, crumbling villages scrape by in picturesque poverty. So, too, the Bentley Bentayga. Not in its economics, of course, but in its character. As Bentley’s first SUV—which Bentley claims to be the world’s first hyper-luxury SUV—the Bentayga is undeniably a refined, elegant machine, one with an available $170,000 Mulliner Tourbillon timepiece. It’s luxurious in a way that few cars except Bentleys are: luxurious in time and resources...

Technology Preview: We Drive Honda's 10-Speed Automatic TransmissionIt wasn't too long ago that a six-speed automatic transmission was state of the art. Then we got seven-speed, eight-speed, and nine-speed units. One of the nine-speeds, designed by noted transmission manufacturer ZF, has given multi-speed transmissions a bad reputation. Paired with four-cylinder...

2017 Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe first drive reviewThe Ascari Race Resort is a European country club for those who like to drive fast rather than golf. Situated in Malaga, Spain, near the Mediterranean Sea, it’s a playland for well-heeled Europeans to flog exotic machines, bask in the sun, and be pampered by the resort’s staff. Top Gear...

Driving A Police Car: Six Things You Should KnowDisclaimer: Kids, it's a federal offense to impersonate an officer. Don't try this at home. Let's be real: The 13-year-old me squealed and giggled a bit when I was handed the keys to a 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit. Oh, the amount of trouble I could get in—and how quickly I could land myself in...

Quick Spin: We Drive The 2017 Acura NSX, Ever So BrieflyThe second-generation Acura NSX isn't due to be released until next spring, but Acura is giving early rides to some media outlets. Last week, Acura had a preview test drive at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and this past week I had the chance to get a few minutes behind the wheel on the high-speed oval...

Mighty Micro: We Drive The Tiny But Fun Honda S660Not many Americans know about it, but Japanese domestic market (JDM) enthusiasts are hoping Honda will bring its tiny new S660 roadster to the United States.
