Fifty shades of grey may be a box-office phenomenon this weekend, but at BMW, it's business as usual. Ever see a Bavarian brochure without some halftone hue? Or five of them? If grey could be anthropomorphized, it'd be the brand mascot. Somehow BMW manages to conjure grey outside of showrooms, too. Even in usually sunny Austin, they've brought with them a pallid sky as a backdrop for a fleet of silver-on-silver droptop 2-Series convertibles. There's a reason you don't see those photos here: it all blended together, and the cars vampired out on us. Sucks, we know. ALSO SEE: Drifting On Ice...

The all-new 2015 BMW 2-Series Convertible has been revealed and is due in showrooms early next year. The pick of the bunch is clearly the M235i, which sports a turbocharged straight-six engine good for 320 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Of course, it’s the priciest, too, with the starting price set to fall a couple of grand above the $44,050 sticker of the M235i coupe. The good news is that for a lot less money you can still get the look of the M235i by equipping the regular 228i variants of the 2-Series Convertible with the car’s available M Sport package. The BMW 2-Series Active Tourer is unlike any BMW we’ve seen before. For starters, the vehicle sends drive to front wheels in standard form and in some markets the engine will have just three cylinders. It should probably come as no surprise then that BMW sees the 2-Series Active Tourer as a conquest model: the automaker expects as much as 75 percent of buyers to be new to the brand. “We are expecting the Active Tourer will have a conquest rate of around 75 percent," BMW product manager Frank Niederländer told Automotive News (subscription required). 2014 BMW M235i video reviewThe BMW 1-Series is no more. Nope. It’s been replaced, by this: the new 2-Series. It’s longer, wider, and roomier, and a little more expensive—but with the turbo six, it’s as close to a classic M3 as you can get. Let’s start under the hood. You’ll find either a...
