The 725- to 1,200-horsepower Hennessey Venom GT supercar, based on the Lotus Elise, is nearing its final production. This video shows the mid-engined supercar testing its might around the British countryside as the company fine-tunes the car's handling and performance.
With a sub-2,400-pound curb weight and an engine based on the Corvette ZR1's LS9 powerplant, the Venom GT is destined to be one of the fastest things on the road when it finally reaches limited production. Just 10 vehicles per year are planned, but with 0-60 mph speeds of 2.4 seconds, 0-100 mph times of 5.3 seconds and a top-speed of 262 mph for the highest-powered version, there's sure to be more demand than supply.
Delivering the power to the ground is a Ricardo six-speed sequential gearbox routed through the rear wheels, with Brembo brakes and 15-inch carbon-ceramic rotors, plus a user-programmable traction control system and active aerodynamics and suspension.
