Rushforth, who is about to leave his post to join Nissan, explained that Hyundai isn’t looking to introduce something like the former Tiburon but rather a global model, perhaps one leveraging the talents of Hyundai’s N performance division associated with the automaker’s WRC efforts.
Hyundai’s sister brand Kia has been rumored in the past to be working on a sports car and Hyundai, too, has hinted at the possibility with recent concepts such as the PassoCorto developed by Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) of Turin and the mid-engined Veloster Midship.
With the next-generation Genesis Coupe expected to morph into a more upmarket grand tourer, there may just be room in the Hyundai lineup for a new sports car. Hopefully we’ll get an official comment soon.
