Small car, big engine. It's a classic, typically American story--and like many of the excellent sports cars of the era, it bears Carroll Shelby's touch. It's the 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mark 1A. One part British roadster, one part American "yeah, it'll fit," with a dash of Shelby Cobra, the Sunbeam Tiger is less well-known, but no less awesome, than its snakey counterpart. Check out the video for the history of this particular car, which belongs to Mike Michaels, former editor of the California Association of Tiger Owners newsletter, and, like us, clearly a huge Tiger fan.

Birkin Blower Bentley Sets Record Auction Price At Bonhams GoodwoodThe Bentley four-and-a-half liter is a racing legend. Known as the "Blower" Bentley, the big-engined, supercharged hot rod was, at the time, an incredibly powerful beast at 240 hp. These days, it's a vintage relic from the dawn of modern racing--the 1930s. The example you see here belonged to Sir...

Prince Of Monaco Selling Down The Family Car CollectionMonaco’s Prince Ranier III was known as an avid collector of cars. Unlike many with a passion for accumulating automobiles, though, Prince Ranier didn’t seem to narrow his focus down to a particular brand, era or even type of car. In fact, his amassed collection includes everything from...

BMW launched its first E21 3 Series model back in 1975. The original generation of the 3 Series was sold through 1983, while a second generation, internally called the E30, was launched in 1982 as a 1983 model. While the E21 pioneered many features still found in the 3 Series, it was arguably the E30 models that won the affections of enthusiast drivers, solidifying BMW’s claim of building the “Ultimate Driving Machine.” Unlike the E21, which came in coupe and cabriolet forms only, the E30 was available in coupe, sedan, wagon and cabriolet variants. E30 buyers could also...

LeMay - America's Car Museum Now Open: VideoDivide 3,500 by seven and you get 500. Simple math, but Harold and Nancy LeMay realized it would be slightly more complicated in the context of willing their immense car collection between their kids as inheritance. 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Barn FindOur experience tells us that when something sounds too good to be true, it often is. Take this 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300SL coupe, for example: it’s only got 31,000 miles on the odometer, and is a two-owner car that’s being offered for sale on eBay. Call us paranoid, but that would be our...

A German court has ruled that the 1937 Mercedes-Benz 500K Special Roadster purchased by Dutch collector Frans van Haren in 2011 was illegally liberated from Germany as a “spoil of war,” and that the descendants of the original owner have a legitimate claim to ownership of the car. Van Haren purchased the car, one of 29 examples remaining in the world, from RM Auctions for a sum of $3.767 million. That was well-below the pre-auction estimate of $4 to $5 million, and the car’s undocumented history until the 1970s likely made many collectors wary of bidding. The Dutch...

Navigation Systems Not That New: Here's One From 1930Being a teenage gearhead geek in the 1980s was bittersweet. Since the Trapper Keeper’s calendar was never full of dates with cheerleaders (or honestly, many girls of any clique), it left more than a few evenings open for television shows like Knight Rider. While the 300 mph top speed was a...

1929 MG 14/40 Mk IV Redefines 'Barn Find'The term “barn find” generally applies to cars found in barns, garages and outbuildings, not buried beneath them. Necessity is the mother of invention, though, prompting one doting MG 14/40 Mk IV owner to dismantle his car and bury it beneath a newly-constructed cowshed, rather than...

RK Motors Restoring The Last HEMI: 1971 Dodge Charger R/TSome sort of hemispherical combustion chamber--heavily modified, updated, and optimized for its particular role, of course--can be found in any number of cars, from many brands; they've been used in an array of engines almost since the dawn of the automobile. But in the heyday of the muscle car...

Barn finds are often the stuff of urban legend, and tales usually begin with, “I knew a guy who knew a guy who had a friend with a 13 mile 1978 Corvette parked in his garage since new.” Connecting the dots to find the car often proves to be impossible, or the tale has been handed down so many times that the car has vanished into the pages of history, probably sold to a new owner in 1983 (and six more since then). That’s not the case here, and Barn Finds seems to have tracked down a genuine parked-since-1968 C1 Corvette roadster, with just 93,423 miles on the clock, for sale...
