Alfa Romeo was widely expected to launch a successor to its 159 small sedan next year based on a front-wheel-drive platform (CUSW) currently underpinning the Dodge Dart and destined for a handful of other Fiat Chrysler Group vehicles. The new small sedan, rumored to be called a Giulia, was said to target the likes of the Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series and offer buyers the choice of four- and six-cylinder powerplants as well as all-wheel drive. According to a new report, the Giulia may end up being delayed until 2015 or even later so that it can be developed around a new rear-wheel-drive platform...

2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class first drive reviewOne of the more confusing questions car reviewers get--other than, "why so much bacon?"--is innocent enough, on the surface. "What's the best car?" Hm. Can I get a metric? Some vague parameters or constraints? Are we talking about the most value you can extract from a $20,000 bill--or the most...

Could a new beast be on the presidential horizon? It might be time for Barack Obama to update his regal ride. The U.S. government recently sent out a request for proposals on an armored limousine design. Now, that doesn't specifically point to the President, but we're pretty certain that RFP should lead back to the big man in charge. That would...

2014 Porsche Panamera S, 4S, & S E-Hybrid first drive reviewTime travel is, perhaps unexpectedly, enlightening. Reading of the conditions and actors of the past provides only a dusty image, rendered in grayscale; dunking oneself fully in the scene teaches lessons that cannot otherwise be learned. Thus I recount for you my recent sojourn to the early 21st...

In May of 2012 we learned that General Motors was working on a new platform for large cars that was tentatively named the "Omega" platform. The platform was to be mostly new but would share some elements with the smaller Alpha platform found in the Cadillac ATS and CTS in order to keep development costs and weight down. At the time, we learned that the Omega platform would be used initially for two new sedans, one to replace the Cadillac XTS and the other to serve as a true flagship for the Cadillac brand. One of these sedans, the XTS replacement, is already in the works and is expected to be...

2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe: First DriveTexas loves its mythology, but it's not always supported by cold facts. "Everything's bigger here" fits on a bumper sticker. Austin's a hub for Smart cars. DFW could fit snugly inside Beijing's Capital Airport with room to spare. Bubble burst. Texas does have one of the biggest new race tracks in...

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG first drive reviewMainstream success gets a bad rap. Most of the time it's richly deserved, emphasis on the "rich." Bieber, Budweiser, Burger King--they're all huge, and hugely profitable. But even at their very best, they're baseline goods, zero hashmarks on the pop-culture barometer. When it's done correctly, with...

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall for a small handful of General Motors products. It seems that a pair of new Cadillac models is acting up. The vehicles potentially affected are the 2013 Cadillac ATS, XTS, and also the 2014 Chevrolet Impala. Apparently the brake lights on these models may begin flashing intermittently even though no pressure is being applied to the brake pedal. Additionally, this issue can also force the car out of an engaged cruise control mode. Upon first glance it doesn't appear to be too terrible of a calamity as far as recalls...

Just over a week from its official web debut, the 2014 BMW 5-Series is now showing off on video. From sedan to wagon to Gran Turismo, the updated 5-Series range adds more power, a new diesel engine, and interior refinements. We Americans will miss out on the 5-Series Touring (wagon), again, however. Still, the useful, if a bit awkward-looking 5-Series Gran Turismo is a reasonable alternative. While the visual details are only subtly changed, with LED headlights available throughout the range and new Luxury and Modern trim lines. Read our preview for the full details on the 2014 BMW 5-Series...

2014 Bentley Flying Spur first drive reviewIt's hard to pick out the landmarks through the dusty permahaze, but even just before dawn it's clear. Beijing does not play around with scale. NASCAR's Leilani Münter Gets Tesla Model S, Goes ActivistIf you don't know who Leilani Münter is, you probably should. And she now drives a Tesla Model S...
