  • Screencap of stunt accident from the set of Transformers 3

Last week, an extra on the set of Michael Bay's Transformers 3 was gravely injured when a stunt went horribly wrong. The actress -- 24-year-old Gabriela Cedillo -- was on a set in Hammond, Indiana, when a cable being used in the scene snapped and hit her in the head. The accident occurred during the filming of a highway stunt. It appears that Cedillo was not involved in the stunt itself; she and other extras were paid an additional $25 (over and above their average daily rate) to drive their own cars in the background of the shot. During one take, a cable connecting Cedillo's 2006 Toyota...

Mazda SKY Rotary Engine Under Development

The rotary engine is a love-it or hate-it piece of engineering. Marvelously simple and compact yet viciously inefficient, variants of the spinning triangle have seen use in Mazda's cars for over 40 years. But that robust classic tech won't do the job anymore. The next Mazda rotary will have to be a...

Report: Ferrari Planning High-Efficiency California Concept For 2010 Paris Auto Show

Green, green, green. That's all we hear these days. How to get green, go green, not do things that aren't green. It's enough to make a person a bit green in the face. But Ferrari's shade of green at the upcoming 2010 Paris auto show may be the sort that indicates envy, as a report out today has the...

    Jesse Jackson, Stripped

Everyone loves to bash a hypocrite. A new Lambo supercar replacing the Murcielago is in the pipeline, and this photo is the first detail for that new car, said to be dubbed the Jota. We've reported on the Jota as it's made its way through development and as Lamborghini began dropping hints about the new car earlier this year. The basics could include a new V-12 engine with up to 700 horsepower and almost 500...

  • 2009 Toyota FT-86 Concept

File this one under speculation and balderdash for the time being, but an anonymous Japanese source has tipped the auto world that there may be a four-door version of the Toyota/Subaru joint rear-drive coupe project known as the FT-86. It does make sense in an economies-of-scale kind of way, but it also runs contrary to the front- and all-wheel-drive lineups at both Toyota and Subaru. Expanding the FT-86's platform to include two more doors would hugely expand the potential market for the car, though its rear-wheel drive layout works against it in that regard, as consumers of low-to-mid-range...

Today's announcement of four driving modes for the car doesn't do much to change that, though we're interested to see just how much sport can be added to the...
