The last of the big name teams in this year Formula 1 competition has unveiled its new race car for the series, with McLaren holding a special event in Berlin for the debut of its new MP4-26. And like most of the other teams’ cars, the new McLaren MP4-26 features a few radical departures over last year’s model.

Some key distinguishers are a longer wheelbase, a high nosecone, U-shaped sidepods and a new intake for cooling the hybrid system.

Once again, the drivers for McLaren will include Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

As previously reported, key changes to the car for 2011 include a switch to Pirelli tires, the reintroduction of the Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), an increase in weight of the car plus the driver to 1,411 pounds, and the addition of a movable rear wing.

The MP4-26 on show, however, was far from complete, coming with a plastic engine and exhaust system in order to keep some technical details secret. Look out for the completed car at the 2011 Formula 1 season opener in Bahrain on March 11-13.

In the meantime, check out other 2011 Formula 1 race cars from Mercedes GP,  Ferrari, Williams, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Lotus Renault GP, Sauber and Team Lotus.
