The motoring world is well aware of the performance potential of Audi’s diesel technology. We’ve already seen the diesel-powered R10 come first in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans race as well as the confirmation that a diesel engine will feature in the TT coupe. Now there are rumors that Audi’s new R8 sports car could receive a diesel engine as well.
There’s no official word from Audi, but the rumors come from Audi’s head of engine development, Wolfgang Hatz. One of Hatz’s dreams is to improve on refinement and noise levels of diesel motors and eventually install an oil-burner in the new R8.
