The Lotus 7 is perhaps one of the most copied sports cars in existence--derivatives in kit form have been available from many manufacturers for decades, including the Caterham version this car is based on. But this one is special. Powered not by some modern econobox engine, but by a contemporary of the original Lotus 7, the 2.0-liter Cosworth BDP four-cylinder cranking out 290 horsepower. It gets that power from its tiny displacement with 12.5:1 compression, programmable Motec M4 injection, and likely a whole lot of wizardry not mentioned in the auction listing. Power to weight ratio: 3.79...

Chevrolet Corvette Sales Looking Up For The First Time Since 2006Two-seat sports cars bought as weekend toys are often among the first things to go in an economic crunch, and as you know all too well, we've had a doozie over the last few years. The Chevrolet Corvette is no exception--since 2006, sales have been a fraction of their former tallies. But that looks...

Is Toyota Planning A Hybrid FT-86?Rumors are as rumors do, and they're flying as wildly as ever around the Toyota FT-86 after the second version, the uninventively-named FT-86 II, was revealed at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show last week. This time, the rumors aren't about delays or cancelation, but about a hybrid powertrain. The rumors...

The Geneva Motor Show is over, but the craptastic weather's following the whiny, overly privileged herd of automotive journos stampeding south for assorted first drives. Porsche's Cayman R drive meets up with pouring rain in Mallorca; by the time we're in the Canary Islands for a two-parter with the new Mercedes C-Class and SLK, it's frigid and windy. The skies are going an even deeper shade of grey as I rebound once more off the Malaga airport, to southern Spain, for a first drive in the Aston Martin Vantage S and one in their all-new offering, the Virage. (More on that on March 21st.) Then...

Retro-styled Singer Porsche 911 mega galleryTaking a decidedly retro approach to tuning the Porsche 911, California-based Singer Vehicle Design has released its first tune. Stripping down to a shell and building back up is what Singer put on the menu for this special Porsche 911. Keeping a few structural standards of the original 911, such...

An image, claimed to be from a leaked internal document from Audi, lists a range of TT-RS models, including a new variant: the TT RS Plus. Adding another 20 horsepower to the already heady mix, the Plus is supposed to enter production in May of this year, according to the document. Twenty more horsepower for the TT RS Plus would bring the total to 355 horsepower, up from the 335 horsepower for the standard model. Torque would likely rise as well, though it's not listed. The powerplant is still listed as a five-cylinder, meaning it would just be a tuned version of the five-pot turbo in the...

Veritas RSIII Roadster Plug-In Hybrid Claims 'World's Fastest' TitleIf you're a fan of limited-production, borderline ridiculous and highly impractical speed machines, the wild, one-seater Veritas RSIII Roadster is no stranger to you. The latest addition, the Veritas RSIII Roadster Hybrid, however, may be. Using plug-in hybrid power and a F1-style Kinetic Energy...

Video: Audi R8 Braves Blizzard, Asks For Your StoryAudi is looking to collect winter stories of its quattro all-wheel drive system in use, and let's face it: this winter probably provided ample opportunity with snow falling heavily from the North Pole clear into the Deep South. This video--which only briefly features the Audi R8, sadly--is a call...

Artega SE Electric Coupe: 2011 Geneva Motor ShowThe last we heard of German start-up Artega and its Henrik Fisker designed GT sports coupe, the company had just started building and selling a limited run of its cars, which at the time were available exclusively with a 300 horsepower V-6. At this past week’s 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Artega...

Don't Want The Mitsubishi Evo To Die (Or Go Hybrid)? Join The CauseThere are many great causes in the world. Causes to fight the many kinds of cancer, to help end hunger, to bring literacy and access to the Web to the poor. This isn't one of those causes. Instead, it's an entirely meaningless cause, but one we're half in support of: to save the Mitsubishi Lancer...

Deal Or No Deal: M20-Powered 1974 BMW 2002BMW's 2002 is often taken as the benchmark for true Bimmerphiles. It's outdated in technology and performance, but there's a purity to its small dimensions and simple aesthetic that many refer back to in judging the cars since. This example, a 1974 2002 Turbo outfitted with an M20 six-cylinder...

We already expected the next Lancer Evo to appear in a hybrid, not-really-a-sports-sedan form, but now it looks like it might not appear at all. The latest news out of Geneva comes via Autocar, from the mouth of Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi's global product director, who says there will be no Evo beyond the X. The reason? Electric vehicle technology and pushing in a different direction from the rally-bred performance of its past. Meeting emissions and fuel economy regulations leaves little or no place for an Evo in the lineup--the mixed message of high-efficiency and the Evo's high-performance...

2011 Lotus Evora Enduro GT Concept: 2011 Geneva Motor ShowLotus' new direction might be a bit unsettling at times, but you can't fault the company's commitment to motorsports. Earlier this year the company announced its involvement with Renault for a official Lotus-backed F1 team, and today in Geneva, enhanced its ongoing FIA and ACO GT race car car...

Subaru Boxer RWD Sports Car Preview: 2011 Geneva Motor ShowThe Toyota FT-86 II is soaking up yet more autoshow limelight, despite having been little more than a circuit regular for over a year now. Subaru's version of the rear-drive platform looks at least as promising, and about half as ... awkward. Sporting a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated boxer engine...

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid Live Photos: 2011 Geneva Motor ShowA couple of weeks ago, we made the case that the 2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid is the best value in the performance/luxury hybrid game, despite its $95,900 starting price. We stand by that analysis, as the new Panamera S Hybrid even manages to look good--as good as any Panamera, anyway--in the...

2011 Alfa Romeo 4C Concept Live Photos: 2011 Geneva Motor ShowPacking the beauty of Alfa's 8C Competizione into a much smaller package, the itty-bitty Alfa Romeo 4C Concept is 200 horsepower of 1.75-liter turbo four-cylinder goodness wrapped in mid-engine KTM X-Bow handling with a frothy Italian topping. We want it. Fortunately, Alfa is going to build it for...
