Muscle cars of the 1960s generally did one thing well. They ground out tarmac-ripping power and torque, hurtling their body-on-frame selves straight down the road or the dragstrip with astonishing acceleration. But squiggly roads, braking zones, or enduring a track meet for longer than 15 minutes caused overheating, oil starvation, and all manner of mechanical apoplexy. Today's muscle cars do the full dance, though, and do so with damn near no excuses. Modern American muscle machines typically throb to the familiar beat of eight cylinders, just like in 1969. Chevrolet alters that beat with...

You can bet Hennessey Performance Engineering had one figure in mind when developing the Exorcist Chevrolet Camaro ZL1: the Dodge Challenger Demon's 9.65-second quarter-mile time. And it's not a surprise HPE was able to top the 9.65-second time with a 9.57-second quarter-mile run. Hennessey released video evidence of the run in a YouTube video, which shows the Exorcist Camaro rocket down the drag strip and clip 147 mph. As a refresher, the Exorcist Camaro hits 60 mph in 2.1 seconds and 100 mph in just 4.7 seconds. All of those figures trump the Dodge Demon, though the Demon accomplishes its...

Chevrolet isn't messing around with the Camaro. The sixth-generation car, which arrived as a 2016 model, is the best yet. We even named the car, in SS flavor, the Motor Authority Best Car to Buy that year. For 2018, the best has been made even better with the addition of Chevy’s track-focused 1LE package to the ZL1 sledgehammer. The result is a car that laps the Nürburgring in a scant 7:16.04. Yes, a Camaro is now among the fastest rear-wheel-drive production cars to have ever lapped the German race track, and it will only cost you $69,995. But you don’t have to spend that...
