Italian supercar marque Mazzanti, in the news just a few days ago with its first model, the Evantra, is now tantalizing us with a new car code-named EV-R.

Few details have been released on the new EV-R, which is set to be revealed fully on June 8 at the 2016 Turin Auto Show.

Mazzanti says that it will be the most "extreme" street legal car ever built in Italy, heady language for a country as associated with high-performance supercars as it is with manicotti with cheese. To that end, Mazzanti has indicated that the car will be Italy's most powerful street legal ride yet. That means its output should best the LaFerrari's 949 horsepower.

DON'T MISS: Could this Ferrari be the most valuable car in the world?

The automaker is named for founder Luca Mazzanti and is based in scenic Tuscany, only a short drive from where Ferrari [NYSE:RACE], Maserati, and Lamborghini have long called home.

The company has indicated that the EV-R will get a different name when it is actually shown to the public. It is expected to make considerable use of lightweight materials like carbon fiber.

As for a powertrain, we're still left scratching our heads. The Evantra utilizes a mid-mounted 7.0-liter V-8 rated at a not-insubstantial 751 horsepower. The EV-R name suggests the car may have some type of electric aid. Then again, maybe EV doesn't mean the same to Italians as it does Americans. We shall see just what powers the EV-R in the not-too-distant future.
