Recalls

  • McLaren P1

The McLaren P1 is a marvel of modern engineering. Still, not everything out there is perfect and the P1 is proof of this. A batch of the cars were just hit with a recall notice. The reason? A secondary hood latch could fail, which could lead to the inadvertent opening of the hood if the primary latch were accidentally engaged. That would be an especially bad situation if the car was moving at the P1's 220-mph top speed. The recall affects cars built between March 1st, 2013 through October 31st, 2015. That's a total of 122 potentially hood-afflicted McLaren P1s. McLaren, of course, will fix...

  • Ferrari 458 Speciale A, 2014 Paris Auto Show

Ferrari certainly isn't immune to recalls. But generally, the company would prefer to call them upgrades—as it did regarding the little fire risk with the LaFerrari's gas tank. But there's no semantic dodge available where the Takata airbag recall is concerned. Millions of cars—estimates have ranged from 16.2 to 34 million—across multiple manufacturers have been affected, at least eight people are dead, and criminal charges are almost certain to be filed in the massive recall.
