  • Audi's 100th INKA test

Audi recently conducted its 100th durability test, known as an "INKA" test, on a 2016 A4. INKA is the acronym for Ingolstadt Korrosion und Altern (corrosion and aging). The testing replicates 12 years of vehicle life in 19 weeks. This corrosion and aging test is conducted in five phases. First, the car is misted with salt and placed in a climatic chamber heated to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Next up is exposure to a tropical climate with a temperature of 122 degrees and up to 100 percent humidity. CHECK OUT: Things we hate about cars we love In the third phase, 80 1,200-watt halogen metal vapor...

It's a generally held rule: Let your car warm up a bit before heading off to tackle the day. But is it really necessary? In a word? No. Our friend Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained is here to explain why today's cars don't really need to be warmed up before driving. Basically, it comes down...

Things we hate about the cars we love

Designing and engineering a car is a balance. If an automaker puts a lot of money into one aspect of a car, other areas may suffer to meet a price target. The struggle between engineering and design is real: good cars can look bad, and vice versa. If the car is meant to handle well, how much power...

This time, though, he featured a rotary engine in something a bit more unorthodox. This 1966...

  • Joe Charles in his 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 that caught fire during track day

One track enthusiast is lucky to be alive after a fiery incident involving his 2016 Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Shelby GT350. As explained in detail on his Facebook page, Joe Charles was enjoying a long day at the track when a series of disasters struck, culminating in his car being engulfed in flames, with no brakes and while running at 100 mph. Trouble in the engine led to a major oil leak. The oil came into contact with the exhaust and a fire quickly ensued. The fire then caused the fuel line to rupture at which point most of the car’s underbody was engulfed in flames. All of the...

    Are CVTs the fastest transmissions?

Nobody truly likes a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). They are loud, soulless, sometimes unreliable, and frankly, they often make your car sound awful. Toyota 86 gets Ferrari engine transplant

When Toyota and Subaru got together to build their 86 and BRZ coupes, they weren't thinking about big power. • Norway is designing a floating underwater tunnel
Are you game to drive through an underwater floating tunnel?

If you are a resident of Norway, underwater floating tunnels might be in your future. We already have tunnels that go under water, but they don't float and that means they don't deal with changing tidal conditions and the rather potentially violent forces at play under water. Still, it seems that...

  • A Lamborghini Murcielago used to tow goats

When you're looking for a good work vehicle, you have many things to consider. Interior comfort is on the list, but towing and hauling capabilities are certainly more important. This is why folks buy trucks to do their dirty work. It's typically not why someone would buy a Lamborghini Murcielago. That's not stopping one owner from putting his Lambo to work. Recently, a YouTube member with the YouTube name Joseph Criniti uploaded a video showing a Murcielago towing a trailer. Inside said trailer you see a pair of live goats. Mr. Criniti added a soundtrack as well: Limp Bizkit's "Rollin." We've...

It's not a critic's job to convince you they're right—whenever that actually happens. On a good day, a critic champions what's new with biting insight and relatable commentary, because rock and roll needed a cheerleader once. On other days (read: most), we're just bitter asses. A "good" car...

  • Here are 5 things to never do with a turbocharged vehicle

Your engine likes to breathe. There are ways to make it breathe easier, and one of them is by cramming air into the engine's "throat." You're forcing the induction. To do that, you'll need either a supercharger or a turbocharger. It's the boost-loving snail of a turbocharger that seems to be the most popular choice with automakers, but there are things you should know about these bits of rotating delight. These are the five things you should not do with a turbocharged engine. ALSO SEE: Here are 5 things to avoid doing with a manual transmission: Video Leave it to our friend at Engineering...
