Fresh off its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG is the company's latest entry into the high-performance SUV fray.

AMG's boss Ola Kallenius says it's a segment the company invented with the original ML AMG, and though BMW and Porsche have attacked it with a vengeance, there's still a lot to say for the ostensible original. Its power comes from a brawny 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8, good for 518 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That's enough to scoot the big SUV to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds.

If that's not quick enough for you, there's an AMG Performance Package that boosts output to 550 horsepower and 560 pound-feet of torque and shaves a tenth on the 0-60 mph run.
