BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept, 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show

The Europeans seem to have mastered the execution of the luxury sports car.  Inside Line reports that BMW may be in the process of submitting  another entry into the segment. The company has also hinted at some fundamental changes to the way they build vehicles in the future.

The recent Vision Efficient Dynamics concept may be a preview of the coming high-end sports car.  The performance and efficiency figures of the Vision concept appear to be realistic targets for the new vehicle.

Extensive use of carbon fiber on premium models will help BMW meet aggressive weight reduction targets.  BMW's Ian Robertson describes a new assembly process strategy as "'hub and spoke' core parts of the car made at a central factory, while localized assembly centers produce the finished vehicle".

Based on Robertson's comments, we could be seeing a drastic change in the way cars are designed and built in years to come, thanks to the efforts of BMW.  They have produced some fairly radical concepts recently that depart from the established methods of the automotive industry.
