Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel led from lights out to the checkered flag at yesterday’s 2015 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, with the German putting in an impressive performance at the floodlit Marina Bay Circuit. Vettel now has 42 wins under his belt, which means he’s passed Ayrton Senna’s tally for overall wins in F1. Just two drivers lie ahead of him: Alain Prost (51) and Michael Schumacher (91).

Vettel started from pole and led all 61 laps, managing the race perfectly through two appearances from the safety car, first when Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg ran into Williams’ Felipe Massa and again when a spectator walked briefly onto the track. But it was no walk in the park for the German as Infiniti Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo was on his tail throughout. In the end, the Australian crossed the line less than 1.5 seconds behind the race winner.
Kimi Räikkönen finished third, approximately 17 seconds behind Vettel, while Mercedes AMG’s Nico Rosberg finished fourth. After good starts from Rosberg and his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, the two were soon off the pace of rivals. On lap 26, Hamilton eventually suffered a loss of power which couldn't be resolved, forcing him down the field and leading to his retirement on lap 32.

Williams’ Valtteri Bottas finished the race in fifth place, while teammate Massa was forced to retire due to gearbox trouble. Sixth went to Red Bull’s other man Daniil Kvyat while seventh and eighth spots went to Force India’s Sergio Perez and Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, respectively. Toro Rosso’s other driver Carlos Sainz took ninth and Sauber’s Felipe Nasr rounded out the top ten.
As seems to be a common occurrence this season, neither of McLaren’s drivers finished the race. There was some bright news among the backmarkers, though. American Alexander Rossi making his F1 debut over at Marussia finished 14, beating his more experienced teammate Will Stevens who was the 15th and final driver to cross the finish line.
Following the results of the Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton still leads the 2015 Drivers’ Championship with 252 points, though the gap between him and Rosberg in second has narrowed to 41 points. Vettel is in third with 203 points. In the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes leads with 463 points. Ferrari is second with 310 points and Williams is third with 198 points. Teams have no time to rest as the next race on the calendar, the Japanese Grand Prix, is held this weekend.
