  • US motorists sue Big Oil over hot fuel issue

Car and truck drivers in seven states have filed a lawsuit against Big Oil alleging that service stations charge more for fuel that’s hotter than the industry standard. The class action lawsuit claims it’s a problem the oil companies are aware of and overcharge consumers by $2b per year. What may win the suit for consumers is an agreement between regulators that states fuel should be sold at 16 degrees Celsius, reports Reuters. Customers in Florida and Texas suffer from the problem more than other states because of their warm climate. A bill is currently being looked at in Texas...

  • Crash test dummies soon to be out of a job

The days of using of test dummies for crash simulations may be over if Toyota and GM have their way. The two fierce rivals are actually working together on a proposal that would allow all the tests to be done using a computer simulation. The benefit this system would have is telling companies the exact wounds occupants would have in a crash. It would also allow them to do more crashes from different perspectives to virtually test for weaknesses in the vehicles, reports Japan’s Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper. Toyota has been working on a virtual test system since 2000 called Total Human...

  • Mitsubishi shares production Evo X sketches

It looks like Mitsubishi is going to be milking all the (justifiable) interest in the new Lancer Evolution for all its worth. It’s just released sketch images of what the actual Evo X will look like. The previous concept that’s been shown was just a taste of some of the styling cues, but the one that will be shown at Detroit, along with the new Lancer, will be very very close to the original. We've already reported that UK magazine Autocar scooped the production lancer on its cover, which you can see by clicking the image to the right. The final production car won’t go on...

  • Mercedes rumoured to be buying out McLaren Group

After months of ‘will-they-won’t-they’ between McLaren and Daimler Chrysler’s Mercedes-Benz, it appears that a merger is finally close to taking place. F1 Racing magazine is claiming to have sources that are “absolutely certain that a sale is taking place.” The move makes sense for Mercedes-Benz, currently the only team in F1 that does not hold complete ownership of its F1 foray. While Mercedes did acquire 40 percent of McLaren back in 1999, 60 percent of the company is still held in equal amounts by Ron Dennis and Mansour Ojjeh. While there is no official...
