Ford Australia has said it has nothing to do with the next-generation Mustang, despite earlier reports from the usually-reliable AutoWeek and Autocar publications that it will be building the iconic sports car. AutoWeek had suggested that Ford AU would help with development and that parts from the Falcon sedan would be used in it. But spokeswoman Sinead McAlary went on record to say “We haven’t been asked” to Australia’s Drive.

She also said the Lincoln concept to be shown at Detroit would be built on the Mustang platform, not the Ford Falcon, as a BusinessWeek article had suggested. We’ll have to wait and see what the real story is behind these cars. It would be a pity if Ford decided not to use the Australian Falcon as the basis for some of its cars.
