An electric sports car that does 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and is designed by one of the men behind the Lotus Elise is almost here.

The Tesla Roadster plugs in to your wall at home and can travel up to 250 miles on a single charge.

Its makers claim it costs around one cent per mile to run, and that it’ll handle like a sports car should.

Interestingly, the company behind it is Tesla Motors [NSDQ:TSLA], which has gathered $40 million in venture capital from the likes of Google supremos Sergey Brin and Larry Page, as well as executives from eBay.
