Yet another China-exclusive long-wheelbase sedan has debuted at this week’s 2016 Beijing Auto Show.

The latest is the A4 L based on the new “B9” A4.

Its wheelbase measures 114 inches in length or about 1.6 in more than on the standard A4. This translates to more interior space for rear-seat passengers.

But it’s not just extra space that makes the A4 L special. The car also comes with more standard equipment than the regular A4 including items such as xenon headlights and a 7.0-in display (an 8.3-in unit is available) for the infotainment system.

Two powertrain options

Under the hood is Audi’s familiar turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder which is offered with outputs of 190 and 252 horsepower.

Compared to some of the other long-wheelbase models we saw in Beijing this week, such as the Jaguar XFL and Mercedes-Benz E-Class L, the A4 L’s lines look more natural and the proportions more balanced.

Production of the A4 L will take place at a joint venture plant owned by Audi and Chinese partner FAW Group. The first examples should be in Chinese dealerships this summer.
