We've spied the second-generation Audi R8 Spyder quite a few times now, but to date the prototypes have always been heavily camouflaged. Thanks to Instagram user cars_in_nambia we have our first look at the upcoming drop-top supercar sans camouflage.

Likely undergoing hot weather testing, the R8 pictured is a V10 Plus model just like the coupe which made its debut last at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Powered by a naturally-aspirated V-10 engine, the R8 Spyder will likely match the coupe's 540 horsepower and 610 hp in respective V10 and V10 Plus trim.

The only transmission that will be offered is a seven-speed dual-clutch unit. While it's a travesty that one won't be able to #GiveAShift in the new R8 with the top down, solace can be taken in the fact that the dual-clutch unit is truly brilliant.

Previous spy shots confirmed that the new R8 Spyder will stick with a conventional folding soft-top roof. The design will be similar to the outgoing model, with a flat deck covering the engine bay as seen here. A vertical rear window positioned just behind the seats can also be seen.

The new Audi R8 Spyder should make its debut later this year, possibly at the 2016 Paris Auto Show in October. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
