The Austrian Alps isn’t exactly a place you’d expect to see a Formula One car but that’s exactly what skiers at the legendary Streif ski course in Kitzbuhel witnessed yesterday. As part of a promotional stunt, Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen took to the slopes in the Red Bull Racing RB7 from the 2011 Formula One World Championship.

The car needed to be flown up via helicopter, but incredibly very little modification was required to get it up and running despite the altitude of over 5,000 feet and temperatures below freezing. Key modifications included raising the ride height to clear the snow and adding studded tires and chains to aid traction.

Now we know what F1 drivers get up to during the off season...
