Despite dealing with a disastrous season after switching from Ferrari to McLaren in the Formula One World Championship, Fernando Alonso appears upbeat—at least on social media—as he can be seen posing next to the new Honda Civic Type R with a huge smile on his face in a recent photo. Alonso posted a link to the Instagram photo on his official Twitter account, along with the message, “E voilà.”

The Spaniard is one of the first to take delivery of the 305-horsepower hot hatch, likely due to Honda’s ties with his employer McLaren, and it appears he’s still a fan of red cars. But the Civic Type R is just a stopgap because the car Alonso is really looking forward to is the new NSX.

He’s been enamored with the upcoming hybrid supercar ever since the debut of the production-spec model at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Unfortunately, he’ll have to wait a little while longer for the new NSX as the start of production has been delayed. Both the new NSX and Civic Type R are due in the United States next year.

Alonso, despite being one of the best drivers in F1, has ruled out trying to win any races this season. Rather, his goal is to help McLaren improve the car and its Honda-sourced powertrain in preparation for next season. The Spaniard is 15th in the 2015 Drivers’ Championship while his McLaren employer is ninth in the Constructors’ Championship, with only cash-strapped Marussia faring worse.
