Toyota FT-86 Sports Car Gets Its Own iPhone App

The Toyota FT-86 sports coupe is something of an enigma and it hasn't even been launched yet.

Known variously as a spiritual successor to the AE86 "Haichi-Roku" Corolla of the 1980s, the "Toyobaru" for its technology shared with an upcoming Subaru coupe and "stop making concepts and build the thing already" to eager fans, it's now being marketed with a mobile app, too.

The new app available through the Apple App Store allows users to submit photos of the FT-86, which Toyota says is already driving around on public roads as it undergoes development testing.

The app can be downloaded for free from the App Store and works with the iPhone4 and iPod Touch 4th generation only.

As for the car itself, the production version is finally set to be unveiled at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show in December.
