Rennsport Reunion 935s

Rennsport Reunion 935s

The triennial Porsche Rennsport Reunion is coming this year, but Porschephiles take note: The venue has changed. For the fourth iteration of the Porsche motorsports gathering, the Porsche Club of North America is heading west to the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, on October 14-16.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Rennsport Reunion, a brief recap is in order. The first Rennsport Reunion was in 2001 at Lime Rock, Conn. The idea behind the Reunion s to bring together classic Porsche race cars from around the nation to drive, compete and simply strut their stuff on a race track like the gods of Stuttgart intended. The first three events were held on the East Coast, but this year's choice of Monterey, Calif., will open up the Reunion to a new group of enthusiasts who couldn't make the trek before.

So what can you expect? Porsche race cars from the 550 Spyder, up through the 917 and 956/962 Le Mans prototypes. There will also be a special tribute to racing versions of the Porsche 911, plus appearances by Porsche's factory race drivers.

As if that's not enough of a Porschegasm, there is also the Porsche Race Car Classic, a concours d'elegance at the Quail Lodge in Carmel. This event gathers together vintage Porsche racecars from the 1950-1965 era, including 550s, 718s, 904s and many more. The event doesn't just allow Porsche fans to go gaga over classic racing hardware, but it also raises money for the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation and the UCSF Thoracic Oncology program.
