Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept spied as convertible in L.A.

Sideswipe is back, or at least we think he is. Last year’s Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept, which GM produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of America’s beloved Corvette, and star as one of the cars of the Transformers movies, has been spotted again--but this time there’s something different.

A mysterious convertible version has been spotted in Beverly Hills, California but it’s still too early to determine if this is actually the same concept, just with the roof removed, or an entirely new car. Perhaps it will appear in the third installment of the Transformers franchise and this is just some movie prop--we can’t tell for sure.

If the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept doesn’t ring a bell, the concept--in coupe form--was first displayed at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show before it starred as Sideswipe in the movie Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

The concept was always going to be solely a design exercise, not foreshadowing a production vehicle despite talk of the upcoming C7 Corvette having been circulating for some time. However, some features we could envisage making into a production Corvette one day include the original concept’s clamshell hood, scissor-style doors, ergonomic seats, rear-view camera with night vision enhancement, and a high performance hybrid powertrain.
