Rumor has it that BMW is developing a new X car in the form of the X4 to enter the emerging crossover market. To be based on the existing X3, the X4 will have four doors but will come with a more coupe-like roof. There may even be a two door variant as well.

The new vehicle will be a niche product, with production most likely outsourced to one of BMW's partners.

The X3 is already one of BMW’s ugliest cars, so perhaps by making this low-volume model even harder on the eyes, the German automaker might believe that consumers will buy more X3s instead–somehow, we doubt it.
