We’ve all been tempted by motorbikes – after all, they offer supercar performance for the same price that you’d pay for a mid-range family car. But is a superbike as quick as a supercar around a track? Tiff Needell of Fifth Gear decided to settle the issue with a race.

In one corner we have a snarling Italian supercar with 500 horses under the hood. On the other hand we have a two wheeled Italian superbike, with just 140 horsepower, but with a curb weight of 186kg.

The awesome straight line speed of the Ducati, with a 0-60mph time of approximately 3 seconds would be a formidable contender against the superior handling of the Gallardo, and makes for a cracking good video as former racing driver Tiff takes on the superbike.

Without ruining the ending for you, once you’ve seen who wins it might help to keep in mind that the Lambo costs a cool $165 000 while the Ducati costs $30,000. Enjoy.
