According to the source, General Motors is demanding a substantial payment from Renault and Nissan for the privilege of forming an alliance between the companies. The supposed multibillion dollar deal would be on top of any share purchases made by Renault-Nissan and comes because of its global reach.

CEO of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, is said to be disappointed by the lack of cooperation from GM and this demand for a payment would only worsen his attitude. The deal will be discussed further in Paris this week, and may turn out to be the deal-breaker for Renault-Nissan.
