  • Ford GT production ends

Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] is ending the production of its flagship supercar, the GT, after building 4,038 units. The car was shown as a concept in 2002 and made it to production shortly after due to massive public demand. The 550-horsepower supercar had a top speed of over 200 mph and could go from 0-62 mph in 3.3 seconds. Ford always said the GT would be in limited production, and the fact that it's been built until now was unexpected. The factory where the GT was produced is to close soon, while the 40-odd people working on the GT will be moved elsewhere.

  • Loss of hybrid tax breaks may hurt Toyota

It seems that the old saying “no good deed goes unpunished” is true, at least in the case of Toyota, whose hybrid vehicles have been a massive sales success. Most hybrids are subsidised by federal tax breaks that can go up to $3150 in the case of the Prius. The problem for Toyota is that they’ve been too successful and have reached the legal limit of 60,000 for production of hybrid cars to remain eligible for a tax break. Under the laws passed by Congress, once production is reached the full tax break lasts for one more quarter, then halves for six months, then halves again...
