Aston Martin wants to make it quicker and easier for owners of its classic cars to have the full history of their vehicle. The British company said in a release last Friday it has expanded its classic car certification program.

The program, which runs under the Aston Martin Works name, was previously relegated to the Assured Provenance Certified tier. Now, a less expensive tier is available simply called Assured Provenance. While the certification program goes through immense detail, including a digital scan of the classic Aston Martin for future reference, Assured Provenance can be considered the "diet" version.

Owners can take their classic vehicle to an Aston Martin dealer where a trained technician will complete a comprehensive review of the car. From there, all of the information is sent to the Works expert team in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England. The experts compile an Assured Provenance report and trace the vehicle's history all the way back to its original build date, if possible. The owner will also receive a certificate denoting Aston Martin has verified the information shown in the report. The price is $5,156 by today's exchange rates.

The full-blown Aston Martin Assured Provenance Certified tier remains far more in-depth. Owners must submit a fee to even have the car considered before it's sent to the Aston Martin Works facility for inspection—not a dealership. If and when Aston Martin accepts the car into its archives, owners receive a record book with photos, a Heritage Assured Provenance Certified record, a USB drive with digital data, and two sets of dashboard and sill plaques.

The new program should make Aston Martin Works more attainable for owners, but we have to wonder why those with the coin to buy a vintage Aston Martin wouldn't simply splurge for the full certification process. Nevertheless, both programs are fully operational now.
