In July of 2011, Subaru Rally Team USA driver David Higgins took second place at the New England Forest Rally, which was good enough to propel the Manx driver to the top of the championship standings for the 2011 season.

For 2012, history has repeated itself: Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew again finished second overall in the New England Forest Rally, which was good enough for the pair to clinch their second championship in two years.

Higgins, ever the team player, pinned much of the pair’s success on his 2012 Subaru STI rally car, built by Vermont SportsCar. He attributes this season’s string of first and second place finishes to the car’s durability and all-weather performance, and promises that he and Drew will give fans a “proper show” at the upcoming Olympus Rally.

The New England Forest Rally was the fifth of six rounds in the 2012 Rally America season. Heading into the event, Higgins and Drew needed just a sixth place or better finish to clinch the title. Dry and dusty conditions hampered visibility and reduced performance, but didn’t stop the Subaru Rally Team USA drivers from closing out the championship.

The title is Higgins’ second consecutive and fourth overall in the series. Last year, he also laid down a record run up New Hampshire's Mt. Washington in his down time, so we wonder where else he’ll turn up (behind the wheel of a Subaru, of course) in 2012.
