Montoya, known as the temperamental Columbian, has decided to quit his career in F1 to join his former employer, Chip Ganassi, in NASCAR for next year’s season.

Let’s face it, he was never quite comfortable racing with Mercedes McLaren and when they decided not to renew his contract for the next season he knew the writing was on the wall.

In a statement to the press Montoya said "I've thought about this for quite some time, but the opportunity had to be right. I will be a lot happier here. It took us an hour to go through everything. It was that simple. It is hard to turn it down. I have a lot of confidence in my ability as a race car driver. I know the transition will not be easy but I can't wait to get behind the wheel."

We’ve enjoyed Montoya’s antics on the track and will be looking forward to seeing how he drives in a totally different environment.
