Following on the heels of Lexus and its hybrid LS 600, Mercedes plans to release its own hybrid version of the S-Class in early 2008.

The hybrid version will run a smaller displacement engine combined with an electric motor for assisting in high demand loads or stop-start traffic, where the engine can shutdown completely.

Hybrids have the benefit of increased outright power, whilst improving fuel economy and emission levels at the same time. Expect the new model to have V8 like performance with V6 fuel economy.
