When Tesla Motors [NSDQ:TSLA] first announced it would be producing an electric sports car for sale, with a price tag close to $100,000, many pundits scoffed that no one would want to pay that kind of money for an unheard of electric vehicle.

Tesla has put an end to their doubts by confirming that its initial run of 100 Roadsters has been sold out, and that the deposits taken guarantee buyers will get their cars sometime next year.

The new Roadster was so popular at its official debut back in July that 37 buyers put down deposits right there on the day. Some famous buyers include Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin as well as Ebay co-founder Jeff Skoll. They all happen to also be Tesla investors.
