The man in charge of the AMG pipeline is Tobias Moers, and he sat down for a chat with Top Gear the magazine at the 2016 Los Angeles auto show. During that conversation, Moers mentions that the more hardcore Black Series variant could be ready by 2018.
When you're crafting a Black Series version of an already mental car, you have to take your time to make sure you get it just right. It's not as simple as adding more power. We're already dealing with 577 horsepower on tap for the GT R. You're also going to want added aerodynamic performance, a lighter curb weight, and a suitably angry bit of extra bodywork.
Still, that added power is likely. The latest E63 bursts forth with a massive 603 horsepower. An AMG GT Black Series then should find a horsepower figure north of 600 supplemented by race-ready driving dynamics. We suspect it will also be quite loud, as AMG products of late have been very good at providing enhanced aural pleasure.
With the arrival of the GT C and the alien-king-green GT R, we welcome any and all variants of the sublime AMG sports car. The Black Series will merely be icing on the cake.
