The current generation of BMW’s venerable 3-Series is now entering its sixth year on the market and even though a successor has been spotted there are still some significant updates to be found on the existing car.

For the 2017 model year, expected to be the last for the current 3-Series, there’s a new 4-cylinder engine, a plug-in hybrid model and changes to the standard equipment and options on some models.

We’ve already detailed the new plug-in hybrid model. It’s called the 330e i Performance, and it comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine working in conjunction with an electric motor integrated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Peak output is 248 horsepower and drive is to the rear wheels only.

The 2017 BMW 3-Series lineup starts with the 320i, which sports a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder delivering 180 hp. Next up is the 328d diesel model whose turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder delivers 181 hp, and then a new 330i model equipped with a new turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder delivering 248 hp. Further up is the 330e i Performance with its 248-hp plug-in hybrid setup, the 340i with a 320-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder, and range-topping M3 with a 425-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder.
