Don Prudhomme and Tom McEwen are two names that are forever intertwined. You might know this pair better by their nicknames; Don "The Snake" Prudhomme and Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen.

This duo turned drag racing into the sport it is today, and they did it by running their hugely powerful (and heavily sponsored) machines head to head for a quarter mile at a time.

Prudhomme would wind up winning most of the battles, and went on to a NHRA career that saw seven U.S. and four world champion titles to his name.

While McEwen didn't achieve the same level of success, the rivalry was fierce and Hollywood was playing close attention because the movie about NHRA glory days is nearly here. Snake and Mongoose is set to hit theaters on September 6, 2013, the same month that another movie about a legendary motorsport rivalry, Rush, premieres.

The first trailer for Snake and Mongoose can be seen above, and it appears that the movie follows the life of both drivers as they battle for on-track supremacy. It should provide a wonderful look into the lives of two men who helped redefine an entire form of motorsports. The Snake and the Mongoose were the first drivers to grab major corporate sponsorship dollars, which allowed them to run the best equipment and the fastest machines.

Hopefully, the on-camera racing shown is as good as it was back in the day. If that's the case, we expect Snake and Mongoose to find a nice place on the movie library shelf of even the average automotive enthusiast.
