Automotive news topics in January are typically dominated by the cars and concepts being unveiled each year at the Detroit Auto Show, and this coming January should be no different. However, there is another important auto show taking place in the first month of every new year, and that’s the Tokyo Auto Salon.
For those unfamiliar with the Tokyo Auto Salon, it is a Mecca for tuning companies, especially those specializing in Japanese models. Like SEMA in the U.S., and the Essen Motor Show in Germany, the Tokyo Auto Salon is no longer the exclusive domain of aftermarket tuning firms but also plays hosts to many OEMs.
One of the biggest stands at the Tokyo Auto Salon each year is Nissan’s, and for 2013 the Japanese automaker will be bringing an assortment of vehicles including several race cars. In fact, Nissan will have no less than 10 vehicles on display at the event.
The lineup ranges from small city cars to commercial vans to sports models like the 370Z and GT-R. This year Nissan will also be bringing some of its race cars, including the DeltaWing, which will be making its official Japanese debut.
There will also be a pair of Jukes, one developed by Nismo and coming to sale in the U.S. next year, and the other previewing a range of personalization options Nissan will offer for the Juke in certain markets.
For fans of electric performance cars, Nissan will present its Leaf Nismo Performance Package, whose main feature is an aerodynamic kit that optimizes front and rear lift balance for improved overall stability and efficiency.
There will also be Nissan’s awesome Motul Autech GT-R race car from Japan’s Super GT series, which in 2012 saw both the Team and Driver titles go to parties fielding the GT-R. On top of this, Nissan will present its latest 2013 GT-R Nismo GT3 race car as well as a 370Z Nismo race car developed for Nissan’s new Z-Challenge Spec one-make series.
