If you’ve never driven a current Jaguar XJ sedan, trust us: it’s a perfectly satisfying luxury ride. No, it’s not up there with Bentley or Rolls-Royce, but neither is the price tag, and the big cat can more than hold its own against competitors from Japan and Germany.

If the XJ isn’t posh enough for you as is, Jaguar is launching what it calls the “XJ Ultimate Edition,” which comes chock full of surprisingly upscale features, like an aluminum worktable for rear seat occupants, a champagne chiller and massaging rear seats.

Starting with the long-wheelbase Jaguar XJ variant, the Ultimate Edition comes in Celestial Black or Polaris White, although customers ordering through Jaguar’s  Engineered To Order group can get any color they choose.

Any engine in the XJ lineup (including the newly-announced supercharged 3.0-liter V-6) is available on Ultimate Edition cars, but all come mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The XJ Ultimate Edition, however, isn’t about performance and it isn’t about handling. It is about arriving in style and in comfort, so if those values appeal to you, it’s time to visit your Jaguar retailer.
