2013 Cadillac XTS livery range
Plans for Cadillac’s XTS, which is based on a version of General Motors Company’s [NYSE:GM] Epsilon II platform used by more mainstream brands such as Chevrolet and Buick, were hatched during the automaker’s bankruptcy days, with the car seen as a quick solution to fill the need for a large, comfy sedan that older traditional Cadillac buyers sought.
That’s not the image Cadillac’s new chief Johan de Nysschen wants for the brand, and thus it comes as no surprise that the XTS will likely be dropped from the lineup once the existing model has run its course. The information was first reported by GMInsideNews, citing comments made by de Nysschen during the reveal of the larger, more dynamic CT6 last week.
"Ultimately, a car like XTS when it reaches the end of its lifecycle will not be replaced," de Nysschen is quoted as saying.
And considering the XTS is the basis of Cadillac’s livery lineup, which includes a regular sedan, a stretch limo and even a hearse, Cadillac also looks set to exit the livery business once it ceases production of the XTS, with de Nysschen alleged to have said Cadillac will withdraw from the segment.
Interestingly, de Nysschen is also said to have stated that there will be “no direct successor” to either the ATS or CTS. What this means isn’t clear though it's likely simply a case of the ATS and CTS replacements getting new names in line with Cadillac's new naming strategy.
