Audi tuning specialist APS has released a new supercharger kit for the V-8 powered R8, offering the power of the bigger V-10 model but at a much lower cost.

Performance, reliability and a stock style feel were major factors in the extensive research and development program carried out by APS and VF-Engineering in an effort to maintain the original Audi quality and smoothness.

Engineers opted to supercharge the Audi R8 to improve throttle response and mid-to-top end power by utilizing the very latest design of Roots-type Eaton TVS 1900 supercharger. This 6th generation ‘Twin Vortices Series’ four lobe Roots supercharger boasts the ability to rev to higher bearing speeds for longer periods, meaning the TVS 1900 unit can be operated at lower crankshaft speeds and create more boost due to its displacement and higher efficiency.

Boost pressure is relatively mild at just 7.5 psi, and this is enough for the 4.2-liter V-8 engine’s output to increase to 548 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and peak torque of 437 pound-feet at 4,800 rpm. Not bad considering the more expensive 5.2-liter V-10 in the R8 only develops 518 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.

Best of all, APS has teamed up with VF Engineering of Anaheim, California, which means we could be seeing local distribution of the parts very soon.
