Audi’s been eliminating the manual transmission on many of its newer models but the latest A4 sedan is still available with three pedals and stick.

Audi has made the manual available at no cost on its A4 equipped with all-wheel drive. The automaker is quick to point out that it’s the only one offering a manual-equipped all-wheel-drive sedan in the segment.

The manual is a new unit that Audi has striven to make lighter by swapping out heavier conventional materials for lighter magnesium as well as shrinking the clutch. Audi says the unit is 35.3 pounds lighter than the manual in the previous A4.

The sole engine available on the A4 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4. Its output is unchanged when paired with the manual, coming in at 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet. Buyers can expect a brisk 0-60 mph time of 5.7 seconds.

The starting price for the A4 with a manual and all-wheel drive is $40,350, including a $950 destination charge. That’s the same price you pay for the A4 with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.

We’re glad to see Audi continue to offer a manual transmission in the A4. Now hopefully we see it in the S4 as well. In case you’re forgotten, the new sport sedan has only been shown with an 8-speed automatic.
