The car isn't even out yet.

That's why you're looking at renderings of what should prove to be an insane-o beast of a sedan rather than the actual thing, based on the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V. John Hennessey and his team are clearly eager to get their wrenching mitts on the car, because they've got a mighty upgrade list already planned for it. They've also got one hell of an ambitious top speed figure in mind.

Under the hood, the 6.2-liter V-8 engine will receive all sorts of forged goodies. From the pistons to the rods and the crank, the engine is being reinforced. A new cam and ported cylinder heads will pair nicely with the upgraded fuel injectors. What's being removed is the supercharger that normally would sit atop the engine, and a pair of turbos are being installed instead.

From there the HPE team will also add carbon ceramic brakes, larger wheels, a beefier set of rubber to go under those wheels, and wider body work to boot. It's going to need that sure footing underneath as Hennessey himself believes his HPE1000 CTS-V will be capable of hitting nearly 240 miles per hour.

Does that sound crazy? Yes of course it does, and it's a number that we'll have to see to believe. Horsepower can solve a lot of problems, but you can't always overcome aerodynamics simply with more oomph. Regardless, the Hennessey team have taken a prior generation twin-turbocharged CTS-V coupe up to 221 miles per hour.

"It was still pulling on when we ran out of road," says Hennessey.

So maybe we're the crazy ones here, and the HPE team will actually pull this off. Either way, we can't wait to watch them try.
