Next year will see Porsche’s Macan crossover receive two new variants: a four-cylinder base Macan and a fuel-efficient Macan S Diesel. Unfortunately, only the diesel model will be reaching the U.S. market.

The information was reported by Car and Driver, which claims the Macan S Diesel’s price will likely undercut the $51,095 (including destination) sticker of the Macan S by a few grand, meaning the diesel sports crossover will likely creep in below $50k, which would make it the most affordable Porsche model over here.

The four-cylinder Macan, theoretically, would be even cheaper than the diesel, though Porsche has no intention of launching it in this market, at least for now.

As for the Macan S Diesel, it's said to benefit from a turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine rated at 258 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. A version of this engine can be found in the Cayenne and several Audi models, and in the Macan should return a fuel economy of around 24/31 mpg city/highway.

Look for a debut of the Macan S Diesel late next year or in early 2015.
