Usain Bolt, the fastest man in the world, can run 100 meters in 9.58 seconds and 200 meters in 19.19 seconds, both world records. He has a thing for fast cars, too as evidenced by his joy over lapping in the Ferrari 458 Italia and 599 GTB at Italy's Fiorano circuit.

It should come as no surprise, then, that Bolt’s personal car since 2009 is a Nissan GT-R. In Nissan’s eyes, the fastest man in the world driving the fastest production Nissan ever built is the recipe for marketing gold, so the automaker has signed the Jamaican sprinter to a multi-year advertising campaign.

The “What If” advertising campaign blends catchy imagery with attention-grabbing titles, and will be rolled out at various international airports beginning today. Expect to see the ad featuring Bolt and the Nissan GT-R In Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Seoul, Kuala Lampur, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Frankfurt, Rome, Johannesburg and London.

The timing is perfect, as Bolt will surely be grabbing headlines at London’s Summer Olympic Games. Backing up the airport ads, Nissan has a dedicated global Facebook page that will provide more of a backstory and include sharable content.

Nissan sees this as a long-term opportunity to highlight its innovative approach to building cars. Expect future campaign ads to feature other Nissan vehicles and technologies, such as the Leaf’s smartphone-directed remote-charging capability.
