If you’re in Monaco this Friday, expect to see the unveiling of a very special automobile. Meant as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the legendary Alpine Renault A110 Berlinetta, the car pictured here in a rendering that leaked online today is said to mark the return of the Alpine brand.

French website Motor Sport reports that the Alpine Renault A110-50 Concept is based on a Renault Megane Trophy, and packs a 400-horsepower V-6 engine into its tube-frame chassis. The bodywork is said to be “inspired” by the Renault DeZir concept, as shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

We’ll know for sure in a few days, but this report seems to mirror what we told you back in January. Assuming that the car is shown on Friday, will it see production as rumored? Will it be positioned against high-end exotics from Ferrari, or against more affordable cars like the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C?

If the car does see production, it will likely be built for the European market, although we wouldn’t rule out sales in the Chinese market, either. It’s a pretty safe bet that Renault won’t launch a premium sports car brand in the United States, so those of us on this side of the pond will likely be out of luck.
