Swiss luxury watch manufacturer TAG Heuer is celebrating its 150th anniversary and as part of the occasion has teamed up with Tesla to create a special one-off example of the famous all-electric Roadster. Decked out in special livery and fitted with a unique interior by Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen, the custom Tesla Roadster recently made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show and now is set to embark on a special zero-emission world tour--the first time such a feat has ever been attempted.

The historic round-the-world tour in a zero-emission car will start in Zurich, Switzerland this Saturday and cover some 22,990 miles before ending at the Paris Motor Show in October. Called the Odyssey of Pioneers, the zero-emission world tour will see the car travel to 15 major cities and more than 150 smaller towns.

On hand at the launch of the Odyssey of Pioneers world tour was actor and climate change activist Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was at the wheel of the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster when it made its grand entry on stage.

Like all Tesla cars, the TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster will recharge throughout the Odyssey using existing infrastructure.

Interestingly, Switzerland is Tesla’s top market on a per-capita basis, with nearly 40 cars delivered to the Northern European country since sales started there late last year.
