Audi has just released images of its upcoming V12 powered turbo-diesel Q7 off-roader. The mega SUV is expected to be displayed at the Paris Motor Show and is set to be the most powerful diesel production car ever and will benefit from Audi’s Le Mans winning R10 racer, which is also powered by V12 TDI albeit with significantly more power.

The production version will produce 500hp along with 1000Nm of torque, from the 6.0-litre V12, with peak torque arriving at a lowly 1750rpm. This is enough to propel the big Audi from 0-100km/h in just 5.5 seconds to a self imposed top speed of 250km/h. Unique to the powerful diesel V12 is the world’s first use of a 2000 bar Bosch Common Rail system with cylinders angled at 60 degrees instead of the usual 72 degree angle bank.

With the amount of investment Audi has placed in diesel technology we were bound to see the German luxury division building more cars with hi-tech diesels. This latest powerplant is able to meet the latest Euro 5 emissions standards and achieves a fuel consumption rating of 20mpg (11.9 litres per 100 kilometres).
